Louisiana Pastor Killed Over Assumed Sexual Activity With Woodrow Karey's Wife

A sheriff claims he's nearer to unraveling the driving force behind the perilous shooting of a Louisiana pastor who witnesses believe was killed by a ex- deacon while the horrified church members looked on .

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said Tuesday the purported gunman's spouse had submitted a rape lawsuit with the police force against Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center pastor Ronald Harris on September 25 , 48 hours before the shooting.

In the complaint , the lady said Harris had raped her a few months before now , as stated by Mancuso .

He turned down to make available the information , claiming it had been part of the murder investigation against past church deacon Woodrow Karey. Mancuso said he had not established whether or not a rape had happened .
Daughter of slain pastor asserts out

Witnesses notified law enforcement officials that Karey went into the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center around 8 :20 p .m . Friday and shot Harris two times -- the very first time as Karey came into the house of worship thereafter again at close range after Harris had fallen to the ground .

Deputies caught Karey after he phoned 911 and told the dispatcher precisely what he had managed to do . He has been charged with second-degree murder .

Karey told respective authorities that 7 days earlier he'd stumbled sms messages from his spouse to the pastor . He suspected , Mancuso claimed , that they definitely were having sexual relations and he challenged his wife . Some time after the altercation , Karey's wife submitted the police report accusing the pastor of rape , Mancuso said .

Officials had not yet looked into the rape accusation by Karey's spouse .

"We had not had a chance yet ," Mancuso said . "Before we pay a visit to an accuser , we always like to gather the facts right before we begin the process of questioning ."

Talisha Harris , the pastor's daughter , was in the church as her dad was gunned down .

She said Karey came into the Lake Charles christian church as she was leading the sixty-five members of the sanctuary in the singing of "Our God is a Great God ."

Karey fired his shotgun quickly , striking a plant , Talisha Harris said . The next shotgun bang struck Ronald Harris in the spine .

Then , Karey came near the fallen pastor , fired one more time and "stood there to observe him take his final breath ," she said .

The gunman ran , leaving behind a congregation in pandemonium .

"People were screaming ," Talisha Harris said . "They were under the pews ."

The slain pastor's son , Ronald Harris Jr . , told CNN Monday that the household was "trying to be strong ." He said his father and Karey used to be acquaintances .

Armed in church

Although hard to find , house of worship assault is not uncommon .

In 2012 , a previous repairs and maintenance staff member fatally shot a church volunteer at a place of worship just outside of Atlanta . Earlier that year , six individuals were killed at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin by a white supremacist who then killed himself .

Shreveport , Louisiana , pastor Ed Gonzalez said he was once contacted by an individual in his office environment with seemingly aggressive motive , CNN affiliate KSLA disclosed .

"He walked inside my office and said to me God almighty told him to take me out ," the station cited Gonzalez as saying .

The man finally backed off , but the experience guided Gonzalez to establish the churches are hassle-free prey . He now keeps a firearm , as do a few more members of his church .

"Pastors really need to alert and keep in mind that we dwell in a planet of anarchy , hatred and resentment , so they ought to do something to safeguard those sheep ," he told KSLA . "As long as there exists sin on this world we're likely to have unwanted anger ."
