Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Fernando Torres, David Beckham In Fashion Worst Disasters

Lionel Messi may have an eye for goal, but the Barcelona superstar does not appear to possess an eye for fashion after he was roundly ridiculed for his polka-dot nightmare at the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2012.

The 25-year-old won the top award on the night - a record fourth consecutive triumph - but may regret showing up to collect football's top individual honour wearing a questionable blazer and bow tie.

Messi, of course, is not the only player to have embarrassed himself in the fashion stakes over the years, with the clobber of footballers in the 1980s providing numerous horrifying memories. And at least he hasn't started a pop career.

GMF have taken it upon themselves to highlight some other prominent players to have made fashion faux pas, to make Messi feel slightly better about his magician fancy dress outfit.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Of course, in any list of fashion disasters Cristiano Ronaldo has to feature prominently. The Real Madrid forward has rather a taste for teeny-weeny shorts, but GMF decided this cream number was far more of an embarrassment.

Also, is that George Michael standing to Ronaldo's left?

Liverpool's 1996 FA Cup final squad

This is very much the iconic FA Cup final team suit. Liverpool's likely lads were in their Spice Boys heyday when they showed up at Wembley to face Manchester United in 1996 - and their threads on the day were certainly daring.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, not only will they forever be remembered for making one of football's worst fashion choices, but they also lost the final to their most bitter of rivals.

David Beckham

Now very much in the twilight of his career, David Beckham cuts the figure of a distinguished gentleman with his sculpted moustache, sensible hair and tweed jackets. But it hasn't always been like that.

The haircut and tracksuit in this picture are enough to warrant a ban from the catwalks for the rest of Beckham's life. No wonder Victoria is keeping her distance.

Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres, unlike David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, manages to live his life mainly away from the public gaze, and perhaps wisely so given his choice in clothes.

The Chelsea striker even manages to make Ronaldo look good in this snap, with his shocking heavy-knit jumper hardly made any better when combined with a battered looking pair of trainers.

Djibril Cisse

Djibril Cisse's claim to fame is that he owns more bad suits than he has scored goals in English football. Ok, so perhaps that isn't strictly true, but the Queens Park Rangers striker knows how to shock and appal with his dress sense.

The ex-Liverpool frontman is so 'out there', sometimes he decides to not even wear a shirt underneath his deep red velvet blazers. Yuck.

  1. lol, too funny. Strange. With all that money most footballers do not now how to dress. Yet a cash strapped fashion fan would do wonders with £100/$100.
