Numerous firing at a Chicago local park left a 3-year-old kid in catastrophic state and brought back the public eye to firearm assault in the city with the nation's highest possible number of homicides .
The little one was among 13 individuals hit in Cornell Square Playground on the city's Southern region Side late Thursday evening . Not one of the many other affected people were on the list in critical situation early Friday .
The month of January shooting passing away of one more infant , 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton , brought nationwide focus on Chicago since the music group majorette had performed in Washington at occasions surrounding President Barack Obama's inauguration in January .
The president invited Pendleton's mother and father to his State of the Union address in February . Obama talked about her in that speech and a couple of days afterwards when he returned to Chicago , his birthplace , for another speech wherein he pushed for stricter weapon rules and regulations .
The police force charged two men in Pendleton's demise . They said the two were gang members trying to get revenge and mistook Pendleton for someone else .
Investigators are convinced Thursday night's shooting was also gang-related , said Police officer Ron Gaines of the Chicago Police Division .
The 3-year-old target was shot in the ear , and the bullet exited through his mouth , said Officer Ron Gaines of the Chicago Police Department .
The other victims included two 15-year-olds who were listed in stable condition , Gaines said . The rest were grown up folks age range 21 to 41 . Four were in really serious condition . The conditions of the others were listed as stable or good . One adult was cared for and discharged from a medical center .
The shooting took place in Cornell Square Park . Video clips from CNN associate WLS-TV revealed police had taped off an outdoor basketball court .
Not a single suspects were in custody late Thursday .
The FBI's once-a-year criminal offense report this week showed Chicago had 500 homicides in 2012 , up from 431 in 2011 even more than several other United States city . Chicago officials have said homicides this season are below the 2012 rate .
