32 Dead In Lativa Shopping Mall Collapse

The loss of life toll from the crumble of a roofing at a local mall in the Latvia capital has climbed to 32 , thereby making it the Baltic state's deadliest wreck since it gained independence from the U .S .S .R . in 1991 , local media reports .

Police spokesperson Sigita Pildava furnished the toll to Latvia's national news bureau LETA.

Latvia's former most-deadly accident was a nursing home fire that killed off 26 individuals in 2007.

Recovery services spokeswoman Viktorija Sembele previously said 35 people had also been seriously injured in Thursday's crumble at the Maxima local mall , in western Riga .

Search squads continuously search the debris to get more bodies , with the amount of dead likely to get higher , she said . Three firefighters were among the demised , and a young child was amongst those seriously injured .

Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs told CNN that authorities believe construction products placed on the roof triggered it to cave in .
